2 day: Contamines & Lake Jovets

Service Description

The Contamines Valley is a refreshing experience due to the greenery everywhere. Visit Lac Jovets which are a natural lake wonder nestled beneath the scree slopes of Col d'Enclave and Mont Tondu, a natural geographic feature well worth visiting for the experience and views. Col de Bonhomme is higher up offers panoramic views of the Contamine valley from high above, Mont Joly is on the opposite (West) side. Your sound track for the day is the sound of Nant River and it's tributaries that accompany you on your way up the mountains, enjoy melodic cowbells chiming in the upper pastures, birds tweet and beautiful flowers start to appear from May onwards. This is a unique alpine environment. Try local produce and traditional products such as fromage blanc with fresh myrtilles coulis, or salads with goats cheese, or fondue if are hungry or cold. Fresh cows products are made here, they are a refreshment, a delightful bowl of fromage blanc with fruit is mountain foodie goodness. Mountain paths in this area are a joy to walk on. You never know how many cows you might find on the pathway with you, or in front / behind you, anything up to 20 or 30 can appear around a corner, this would not be unusual so be prepared to give way to the cows as they are on their way to pastures new and grazing is on their mind. Cows live in the Alps much of the year, although they come down the mountainside for the winter, in summer they eat and sleep endlessly and like to march on to their next pasture for fresh grass. Watch out!
