Gorges Veudale,Verticalp & Lac d’Emosson

Service Description

A train extravaganza in Switzerland up to the lake Emosson, lifts and trains are great fun, and a walk over the damn by lake to the Gorges de la Veudale. Walk up into the spectacular gorges on little alpine paths to see fabulous views of the mountains, rocks, geology and geography. It’s a fabulous day out which takes you away from the main road and into the alpine countryside to discover the unspoiled nature. The variety of nature on show is beautiful and more than is seen in other more popular treks. Start in Chamonix. Meet at Gare SNCF Chamonix at 08:00 next to the English chapel font just opposite the train station. The transport takes you through the Chamonix valley to the Swiss border and the trains up the mountains depart from Chatelard Village behind the SNCF station is the Swiss Funiculaire for Verticalp to go up towards barrage Emosson. This trip does not include a sit down lunch at the Verticalp altitude restaurant. It includes a hike and all the trains to reach the lake. Lunch is organised by clients themselves at the cabin restaurant, it is not included, please either bring a picnic from home in your back pack, or pick up a take out salad, or lunch sandwich enroute from the croissant café or the restaurants at Verticalp (the cabin or altitude restaurant). There’s a good choice of places to eat on the way up there…a café after train 1, or a restaurant after train 3, or bring your own desired hamper or picnic in your day pack. All trains and lifts are excluded but the cost on top of the walk leader is approxmiately 45 Euros. Trains are a) from Chamonix to Swiss border to Chatelard Village b) Funiculaire Verticalp from Chatelard Village up the mountain c) Verticalp choo choo tourist train across mountain d) Verticalp lift to Emosson Barrage new, then on foot to Emosson Barrage Vieux. There is no transport available between Barrage 1 & 2, that is all on foot via the Gorges Veudale trek with the International Mountain Leader. Please where comfortable and flexible trekking or trail boots or shoes. Alpine flowers seen enroute include: les lis Bruno, joubarbe, tussilage, astragale, pulsatilles jaunes, androsace alpin, soldanelles, pensée des Alpes, myosotis alpestre, gentianes des neiges, gentianes alpines, trèfles alpin, and many more.
